A properly installed vapor barrier blocks ground moisture from reaching your crawl space or basement floor, sealed at every seam and pier.
Berkeley, IL crawl spaces and basements see different levels of ground moisture depending on soil type and grading, which is part of why we size liner thickness to the specific space instead of defaulting to the same product every time.
Seam tape and pier wrapping are done to the standard that keeps warranties valid.
Vapor barrier installation is typically a quicker job than full encapsulation, and we can often schedule Berkeley, IL appointments within a few days.
No surprise add-ons — the number we quote covers material and labor for the full scope discussed.
We recommend liner thickness based on foot traffic, storage use, and moisture severity, not just selling the thickest option by default.
Every Berkeley, IL Vapor Barrier Installation job starts with an inspection, not a generic package — here's what that typically includes.
Heavy-gauge liner is installed across the entire crawl space floor and up the foundation walls, sealed at every seam to block ground moisture transmission.
This is often done in coordination with a flooring contractor's timeline, and we can work around scheduled installation dates.
Support piers and posts get individually wrapped and sealed as part of a proper crawl space installation, since unwrapped piers are a common moisture bypass point.
Existing vapor barriers with failed or separated seams can often be repaired rather than fully replaced, extending the life of a system that's otherwise sound.
Old, torn, or undersized ground cover gets removed and replaced with properly rated liner sized to fully cover the space, piers included.
This helps us bring the correct liner and sealing materials on the first visit.
We also check for standing water or excessive debris that would need addressing before liner installation.
You'll see the recommended mil thickness, total square footage, and pier wrapping scope broken out with pricing.
Most standard-size installations are completed in a single visit, sealed and ready the same day.
"They wrapped every single pier, which the last contractor apparently skipped entirely."

"Seam tape on our old barrier had failed everywhere. They repaired what could be saved instead of pushing a full replacement we didn't need."

We recommend thickness based on how your specific Berkeley, IL space is actually used.
Often yes — if the liner itself is largely intact and only seams have failed, seam repair can extend its life without a full redo.
We use rated pier boots rather than improvised wrapping.
No — a vapor barrier is the ground liner itself, while full encapsulation typically adds vent sealing and dehumidification on top of it.
Larger or more complex spaces with extensive pier wrapping may take a bit longer, which we'll flag in the estimate.
We can discuss combining it with dehumidification if the smell doesn't fully resolve.
